In this guide we will explane you why we had chosen this topic, and which is the objective of every activitie.
But first of all we have to notice you that this blog is focused on children of 10-12 years aproximately (5-6 courses of Primary Education). This is the target group we had chosen.
We chose the topic of "The Lion King" because we though it could be interesting and funny for children. At least more funny than a simple list of exercises. Also, this topic can be aplicated in a lot of activities; it gives a lot of possiblities. Consequently, we made all the activities around this topic; connecting it through an imaginary safari: a route you've to follow for complete this amazing adventure.
Now, we are going to describe the skill we want to try in each activity.
1. Parts of the animals' body:
“Parts of the animals body” is the first activity of the safari. This activity is for practise the vocabulary. Specifically, for learn the vocabulary of body parts of different animals, for example a bird or an elephant.
It's an easy exercise for start softly and for introduce the adventurers in the dynamic of this activities.
2. Listening (movie fragment):
The listening have a lot of benefits for children's learning:
- Familiarize with the sound of the English words.
- Have fun.
- Extend the vocabulary.
- Improve the spelling.
3. Family tree:
It's like exercise 1. A vocabulary exercise. This time the difficulty is a little bit higher because it introduce kinships. This little difference makes users have to think a little bit more. So it developes the capacity of link ideas.
4. Description of characters (who's who?):
The objective this activity are:
- reading comprehension.
- learn and have fun at the same time.
- develope the capacity of link ideas.
5. Video comprehension:
This activitie is like number 2, but in this case the children have to answer questions linked to the video. It develope the capacity of link ideas, concepts, and also have an exercise of listening, with all the benefits of exercise 2.
6. Extra activitie (listening 2):
The objectives are the same that in the first listening. But, in this case, the video is a song (not a dialogue), and the words are easier. It's a relaxing and funny extra exercise.
7. Listening 3 "I just can't wait to be king":
This is an activity to practise the listening comprehension. In a first time the user can enjoy the video, that is funny and has a nice song, and in a second time he has to identify some words and write them, filling the gaps. These words are easy and to understant the song the user has to make an effort, what we think is very important in an interesting activity.
